All you have to do is call up the airline they are flying 48 hours before the journey and ask it to make arrangements for special assistance to be provided to them.

Concerned that you are not being refunded the entire amount due to you because you decided to cancel your ticket?

Don’t worry. This useful information and much more is only a click of a button away on your Internet-connected mobile phone, tablet, laptop or personal computer. All you have to do is log on to the newly started Know Your Rights site (http://www.dgca.nic.in/kyrdgca/KYR_portal.html) a new initiative of the airline watchdog, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The site tells you exactly how much of a refund you will get if you have booked a ticket and now want to cancel it. The components of an air ticket that an airline has to refund in case you cancel your ticket include passenger services fee, airport development fee/user development fee and service tax. And in case you are a passenger with a disability and you are off-loaded even if you have a confirmed ticket, a remote possibility but a possibility nonetheless, then you and your escorts, if you have any, are given the highest priority for transportation.

The ministry of civil aviation is reviewing management contracts to private operators at six airports in the country, to shield airlines and passengers from high user charges.

“We need to consider our learning's from the airport contracts awarded in the past,” a senior ministry official said.

“One concern raised by stakeholders is the cost of turnaround of an aircraft. The turnaround cost for a jet is around $6,000 at an Indian private airport, whereas it costs $2,300 at Changi (Singapore ) airport. We need to ensure privatization does not increase the cost of the airport,” he added.

Once the modalities are drawn up, the ministry will take approval from an inter-ministerial group to award management contracts at airports in Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Guwahati, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

The official added the Airports Authority of India had invested Rs 2,000 crore in upgrading the airports at Kolkata and Chennai. The ministry is evaluating public-private partnership for their management, as well as other models.

The ministry is also looking into the Comptroller and Auditor General’s views on the privatization of airports in Delhi and Mumbai. “We are looking into these concerns. All this will be debated in the inter-ministerial group,” the official added.

The process to award management contracts for these six airports was initiated last year by the United Progressive Alliance government but was delayed by differences of opinion between the civil aviation ministry, then headed by Ajit Singh, and the Planning Commission over terms of the award.

The ministry now has the broad outlines of the concession agreement and an inter-ministerial group meeting was scheduled on September 4 to clear it. The meeting was postponed as a new secretary, V Somasundaran, assumed office in the civil aviation ministry a day before. A new date is likely to be fixed soon.

Malaysian no-frills airline AirAsia said on Tuesday it has put on sale 1.5 million promotional seats for fares as low as Rs.690 for one way journey under a limited period offer. The airline’s Indian subsidiary AirAsia India on Tuesday rolled out a discounted ticket scheme, offering flyers an all inclusive one-way ticket price of Rs.690 from its hub Bangalore to Chennai, Kochi, Goa and Rs.2,390 from Bangalore to Jaipur and Chandigarh. 

                                                  This offer is also available on AirAsia Berhad and Thai AirAsia flights. All inclusive fare is available from as low as Rs.4,999 from Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Tiruchirappalli, Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur and Rs.4,500 from Chennai to Bangkok, AirAsia said in a release here. The bookings for these offers have already commenced from Monday and can be made till 5 October, the airline said. The travel period under the offer, however, will be from 15 January 2015 to 30 June 2015, it said. 

                                                  AirAsia India currently operates to five destinations—Goa, Kochi, Chennai, Jaipur and Chandigarh, from its hub at Bangalore.

JET AIRWAYS TAKES ON AIR ASIA INDIA WITH NEW OFFER:

         Jet Airways launched an excited offer on the routes operated by budget carrier Air Asia India. Jet airways is offering fares as low as RS 910/- (inc. all) as part of this scheme, which is applicable on economy class tickets.

                        This Jet airways offer can be valid by booking before October 5^th and is valid on travel after January 15, 2015.

                         As part of the offer, jet airways is offering Kochi- Bangalore tickets at RS 910 and Bangalore-Kochi at RS 1162.                                  Air Asia India from September 5 added Jaipur and Chandigarh to its network as part of its first into north India.

                             Airlines in India this year come up with many promotional schemes to attract flyers.
